Y.A. Paloheimo first came to the United States in 1929, and by 1933 was hired to be in charge of travel promotion by the consulate general of Finland in New York. He met Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt. In 1939, Paloheimo worked on the construction of the Finnish pavilion as a commissioner for the World Fair. He worked with the American Finnish community as a Field Secretary for Help Finland after the Soviet Union attacked Finland. Leonora and Y.A. shared a love for culture and passion for preservation.
