MARTHA COLLINS

Martha Collins is the author of nine books of poetry, including the recently published Night Unto Night, which is a sequel to Day Unto Day (Milkweed, 2018, 2014).Her other works include a trilogy of books that focus on race: Admit One: An American Scrapbook (Pittsburgh, 2016); White Papers(Pittsburgh, 2012); and the book-length poem Blue Front (Graywolf, 2006), which focuses on a lynching her father witnessed as a child.  Collins has also published four volumes of co-translated Vietnamese poetry (most recently Black Starsby Ngo Tu Lap), and co-edited, with Kevin Prufer, an anthology of multiple translations titled Into English: Poems, Translations, Commentaries (Graywolf, 2017).

She has won numerous awards for her work, including an Anisfield-Wolf Award, a Laurence Goldstein Poetry Prize, and fellowships from the NEA, the Bunting Institute, the Witter Bynner Foundation, and the Siena Art Institute. Founder of the creative writing program at UMass-Boston, she served as Pauline Delaney Professor of Creative Writing at Oberlin College for ten years and as Distinguished Visiting Writer at Cornell University in 2010. She is currently editor-at-large for Oberlin’s FIELD magazine and one of the editors of the Oberlin College Press.
