Gloria retired after 31 years at Sandia National Laboratories, where she was a manager in the Government Affairs Office. She is a member of the Special Libraries Association, an international information organization, in which she has held several offices, including President. Gloria has an undergraduate degree in history and political science and a Masters in Library Science from the University of Michigan. She is the Grants Administrator of the New Mexico Library Foundation where she is a board member and serves as chair of the Academic Advisory Committee (AAC). Gloria also volunteers in the archives of the Acequia Madre House™ and with Santa Fe’s ARTSmart, a nonprofit that raises money for art programs in public schools.
Gloria Zamora’s contributions to various nonprofit organizations keep her active beyond her 31-year career with the Sandia National Laboratories. At Sandia, Gloria served as the liaison between members of Congress, their staff and the management and technical staff at the laboratory. As Government Affairs Manager, she tracked and analyzed federal legislation and represented issues of the laboratory to Congress. Her background in information science and experience in the information industry now assist her in serving her local and national communities.
Since 1977, Gloria has been a member of the Special Libraries Association (SLA), an international information organization in which she has held many offices over the years. She served two terms as President of the Rio Grande Chapter and three terms on the Board of Directors, as Treasurer and President. Named a Fellow of SLA in 1999, she additionally received the association’s highest recognition, the John Cotton Dana award, in 2007. At the SLA 2013 Annual Conference, Gloria was honored as an SLA Hall of Fame Inductee.
Gloria is also the Grants Administrator of the New Mexico Library Foundation. She is a board member of the Women’s International Study Center (WISC) and serves as chair of the organization’s Academic Advisory Committee (AAC). Gloria holds an undergraduate degree in history and political science as well as a Masters in Library Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. When she is not working, Gloria enjoys cooking and indulges her passion for movies and classical music. She lives with her husband Bob in Santa Fe, NM.
