WISC donors are so generous and WISC and its Fellows want to show a little appreciation. Through year end, the first 10 Donors of gifts up to $999 will receive a book by one of our spectacular fellows, including Dr. Julie Sasse, Dr. Mary Margaret Fonow, Dr. Stanlie James, Susan J. Tweit, Valerie Martinez, et al.
The first donor to give $1,000 or more will receive an original work of art by 2016 WISC Fellow and Mexican-American papel picado artist Karina Puente. Karina works in large scale hand-cut story cloth; the piece she’ll create for a WISC donor will be approximately 50 inches wide and intended as a window covering. Karina has this to say:
Hand carving artwork for a WISC donor’s window is important to me for two reasons:
1) The WISC fellowship propelled my work forward in unexpected ways. WISC gave me the tools — literally built me a large scale easel — to create important work; art that fortifies my practice as a full-time artist.
2) Months after my fellowship, WISC continues to encourage my personal vision. Window artworks are among the first prototypes of an interior line I wish to launch. This new line has been stirring as a quiet dream since my fellowship.
We thank our fellows for donating works, and we thank you, our donors and friends, for your support for WISC symposia, conversations, and the fellows-in-residence program — our efforts to honor women’s accomplishments, support study and research, and facilitate inter-generational, multi-cultural and cross-disciplinary dialogue. Without you, none of these things are possible.
Thank you and best wishes for 2017,
The Women’s International Study Center
