FELLOWSHIP

The Women’s International Study Center (WISC) inspires and enables women to achieve their goals. Our fellowships support a broad range of subjects and genres, and our Fellows work in-residence to create new projects and engage with the community through public programming.

GENERAL: Residencies are typically one month long.

WHO SHOULD APPLY: Writers, artists, scholars, scientists, professionals, innovators and entrepreneurs are encouraged to apply. WISC seeks proposals aligned with our focus areas – the arts, sciences, cultural preservation, business and philanthropy. All projects must be relevant to the interests and experiences of women. We welcome applicants in all phases of their careers.

Our former Fellows’ projects will provide examples of the diversity of projects we have supported in the past. Fellows have the opportunity to utilize resources of the Acequia Madre House Archive and Collection to complete their projects.

The Archive and Collection include:

  • Southwest Indigenous art, artifacts including pottery, fetishes, textiles, ledger drawings, paintings and drawings from early 1800s to present.

  • Historic records of cultural and civic affairs in Santa Fe, Taos, Los Alamos, and surrounding areas, including most Northern Pueblos.

  • Hispanic arts, architecture, furniture and handicrafts, including Colcha textiles.

  • Photographs of the American Southwest, California, Europe, and Egypt from mid-1800s to mid-1900s

  • Photographs and artworks of early adobe architecture from 1890s to present, including churches, missions, and structures of the Southwest and California.

  • Archival documents involving anthropology, botany, culture, civics, domesticity, ethnography, entrepreneurship, linguistics, philanthropy, traditional medicine, and war effort.

  • Domestic artifacts, clothing, costumes, and textiles from 1800s – 1900s.

  • And more…
